if we dont think it will work on that day we can still bush hog it and me and don will watch it ,when she starts to grow we can spray it then , that way we will get a good kill , but we will have to bushhog it then its about 3 to 4 feet tall now

If I was gonna spray it in late July,I would bush hog it now,and cut it pretty low.Since you're only doing strips it wont matter how tall the area between the strips get,we aint spraying them anyway. If it is cut low, some of the weeds that have matured will die. A gallon per acre is overkill, but if we have the chemical why not use it.For good coverage ten gallon of water per acre works great, you can get by with 5,but if its available I would calibrate the sprayer for 10. I use 7.5 gallons per acre of water with my soybean sprayer. If the nozzles are 20 inches apart on your sprayer, the way to see how much water your nozzles are putting out per acre is to mark off 204 feet and drive that distance with your 4 wheeler and time how long it takes you to go that distance. Then hold a measuring cup under one of your nozzles for that same time. However many oz's of water you catch in your measuring cup is gonna be the same amount of gallons of water you are putting out per acre. Now if that doesent confuse yall enough,I'll try again later.

Troy how much Roundup do you think we will need. Figgure we need to lay it on pretty heavy since the weeds will be pretty much dormant unless we happen to get a rain. You think a gallon mixed with 20 or 30 gallons of water to the acre would be overkill?
John, Darrell, how tall do you reckon the weeds will be up there? And just how many acres are we planting? I understand a 10 acre field but we are planting strips, so actually spraying and planting about 2 acres at Harold E. Have I got it right?
Two quarts per acre of 41% glyphosate (round-up) is a strong application. Plants must be actively growing for glypho to work. You will have to wait for growth after mowing or brush hogging. Glypho only works by absorbtion through the plants leaves and the plants must be actively growing . If it is dry and no growth is occuring a stronger mix will probably only result in twice as much glypho wasted. Also...glypho needs to be left on the plants 5 days before they are mowed or disced down. Also..........I understand the need to plan and set dates for field work but if Mother Nature does not co-operate you have to have flexibility in your plan. Many plants have and are going to seed right now. If at all possible I would spray now or just after you get a good rain. I am assuming it is dry and plants are stresed right now)

John and Don,
How many volunteers do you need for July 22?? If all you are going to do is bush hog that day it won't take a lot of volunteers will it?? Are you going to try and spray that day also??
