Fresh off the press - here they are!
The second annual ADHA Business Meeting was called to order by President Darrell Speakes at 9:00 a.m., August 5, 2006, at the Gander Mountain Lodge in Sherwood, Arkansas.
Cory Gray, AGFC Deer Program Coordinator, was introduced and presented a briefing on the latest deer herd information and the 2005 Deer Harvest Summary. After his briefing he opened the floor to questions and many subjects were discussed - including Scatter Creek and Sunken Islands, 3-point rule, slot limits, poaching, food plots, diseases, urban hunting, etc.
Minutes of the August 2005 Business Meeting were presented by Interim Secretary Barry Comer. A motion was made by Tony Ramey to accept the minutes, seconded by John Mashburn and they were approved as read. The Treasurer’s report was presented, motion to accept by Steven Stovall and seconded by Pete Clark. Financial report was approved with minor changes. Darrell explained that his withdrawal of $135 on May 22d was for printing costs for the May Newsletter.
Since inception of the ADHA no renewal letters have been sent out. Listings by region were handed to the directors for them to send out the renewal letters. They will be reimbursed for any printing, postage, and envelope costs involved.
A discussion was held concerning the apparel that we have available. We will contact Gene Williams to see what he has and an updated inventory of what we have which will posted on our web site.
Chat Forum discussion - we need more feed back or replies from members when an item is presented. Discussion should be to the point with any pros or cons you feel are necessary.
After a lunch break a plaque was presented to Freddie Beavers in appreciation for ArkansasHunting.net letting us on when the ADHA was in its infancy.
Plaques were also presented for the 2005 Deer Contest. Dale Clark - Youth Modern Gun Rodney Johnson - Adult Muzzleloader Troy Greeno - Adult Archery Abbie Little - Youth Muzzleloader Carole Little - Adult Modern Gun
Larry Mallard, White River National Wildlife Refuge Manager, and Richard Hines, WR Wildlife Biologist, presented briefings on the history of WRNWR which included how the Refuge came about, what has occurred since its inception, how the Ivory Billed Woodpecker may possibly affect the area, and how the bald eagle is making a comeback in the area.
It was suggested that the Regional Directors submit a short write-up for the newsletter each quarter. After the first of the new year, the newsletter will be published during the third month of each quarter - Mar, Jun, Sep, and Dec.
A suggestion was made for when a Director is unavailable for the annual meeting that an assistant director be given his authority for voting purposes at the meeting. A motion was made by Don Mullis and seconded by John Mashburn - further discussion will be held on our chat forum.
A discussion was held for electing the President and Vice-President in alternating years - a new Vice-President will be elected in 2007 and a new President will be elected in 2008. Further discussion will be held on our chat forum.
Barry Comer was elected as Secretary and we are still looking for someone to take the Treasurer position as Bob Robertson is unable to continue. If you are interested in this position please contact Darrell. Brendan Baldridge was re-elected as Director for Region 2 (Northeast) and Ed Mulholland as Director for Region 5 (Southwest).
A motion was made by Brendan Baldridge and seconded by John Mashburn that we be represented at the 2007 Big Buck Classic and the Jonesboro Sports Show, the same as we did this year. Motion carried. In addition, a committee of Tony Ramey, Freddie Beavers, Pete Clark, and Rodney Johnson was formed to find shows in each region for the ADHA to attend.
Darrell asked that any deer hides you have be donated to your local Elks Lodge. The Elks will have them tanned and given to the local DAV for making of wheel chair gloves.
Discussion was held on getting something going in Region 6 (Southeast). If anyone is interested in being the director for that region please contact Darrell.
It was discussed about the possibility of adjusting or realigning the region boundaries if necessary.
Motion by Pete Clark to adjourn at 4:30 p.m. and seconded by Brendan Baldridge. Motion carried.
After adjournment several attended for a meal at Golden Corral.
