AG&FC Hunting Regulations Meeting
« on: September 20, 2006, 11:01:31 PM »

The Wildlife Management Division  of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hosts public meetings the first week of January each year as a part of the Commission’s annual hunting regulations process. AG&FC will conduct its annual Wildlife (General Hunting) Public Meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. These meetings are to allow sportsmen to voice their opinions about hunting regulation and seasons.  Sportsmen who are unable to attend these meetings may also send their comments via email.

Allen this should be an interesting meeting, we all hope they are out before then, but they said they may reveal the possible new antler restrictions at these meetings.

Glad they're having one in Pine Bluff this time,  I've been driving to Monticello for the past several years to attend these meetings.   Cheesy

Its probably a little early to start just yet but I think we need an ADHA representative at all of those meetings that we can get someone to commit to attending.

We will be at the one in Jonesboro, I hope Cory doesn't wait till then to let us know about the antler restriction models.

Question, I wonder why the Jonesboro meeting wasn't at the Nature Center, instead of buried in the back parts of the city?

I will be at the one in Little Rock.

Aside from hearing what the Commission and audience has to say, do we, the ADHA have any issues we want to bring up for discussion? If so, we need to make sure we are all on the same page and not contradicting one another in any way. As an Assistant, I dont feel I'm in a position to speak on behalf of ADHA, but we need to know who will speak and what issues, if any they will address. Just some thoughts to consider.

Shouldn't there be some kind of specification in the rules & regulations handbook concerning what a person should do if they find a dead deer in the woods that is still good or what a person should do if they happen to hit a deer with there vehicle?

Barb - I believe (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) that you get to keep the deer if you hit and kill one but you do have to report it to the AGFC.

I work a lot of deer/car wrecks up here and if the person wants the deer they can keep it.  If they don't we have a list of folks that will come get them, so they hardly ever go to waste.  I just notify the Sherriffs Dept. and they keep a list for the AFC so they can keep a count and have a record of who got it.

I have never dealt with finding one in the woods.  I would think if you notified someone you had found it and would like to keep it they would let you.  No one wants to see the meat go to waste.  I think the key would be to notify the AFC before moving the deer.  If it was a deer someone shot, it would be mighty hard to prove you were not the one that shot it if they happened to check you on the road and it was not tagged.

I am not sure what the regulation on this is, or if there even is one.  I have never thought to look.

These rules are not in the rule book, but they should be, just to let the general public know what they {by law} expect them to do or not to do. They won't hesitate to write any of us a ticket for not knowing.........
