Jeff like you said this was a last minute deal catching me after a rough day so I hope its ok. But I just wanted to highlight some of the organizations efforts and maybe get some pr for us. John said he had to have it in by today, and man I rushed to get something together, so it may not be good. I think the editors was going to edit mistakes etc. Remember I am no writer and don't claim to be, as my post on here tell that story itself...LOL One Organization’s Efforts. The Arkansas Deer Hunters Alliance The morning fog was hanging low over the Spring River and was spreading throughout the entire river valley of Harold E. Alexander, Wildlife Management Area, as if it was still in a sleeping slumber from the night before. But the Ozark ridges that overlook the valley was a buzz with hunter activity. This was opening day of squirrel season, and hunters were eager to get back into the woods after a long hot summer, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for hunting. But today was not just opening day of squirrel season it was also a day of work and fun for some hunters in the state. Let me introduce to you a new deer organization in the state of Arkansas.
The Arkansas Deer Hunter’s Alliance is a new hunting organization in the state, formed by deer hunters to give back to the sport of deer hunting. The initial steps of starting the organization were in June of 2004, and they have been making strides ever since that time. The organization welcomes all forms of deer hunters into the organization. Its philosophy is, we are all deer hunters, and not just gun hunters or bow hunters, but pistol, crossbow, and muzzleloader hunters as well. Any legal method of deer hunting is welcome and encouraged within the organization. Its goals are to give back to the sport and be a voice and represent the members on game related matters. The organization strives to keep abreast of all new state deer regulations and any new information within our sport to keep its members updated and informed Also the organization feels the youth is the future of our sport, and with statistics showing we have a decline in hunter numbers the organization hopes to make a impact in keeping kids in the woods and not in the streets or in front of the computer. This organization is about giving back to the sport and hopefully insuring the heritage of deer hunting continues for many generations to come.
The Arkansas Deer Hunters Alliance has strived to give back to the sport and help in any way they can with education through hunting Seminars and Family Deer Day events, as they call them, but let me tell you about one of their projects called, Adopt a Plot. The ADHA received permission from the AGFC to plant a couple of food plots, one located beside the Spring River on the Harold E. Alexander WMA and the other located on Wattensaw WMA. After several months of planning and meetings with AGFC officials and getting donations of seed, fertilizer and weed killing chemicals, the ADHA members where out bright and early planting the one food plot located on Harold E. Alexander WMA this morning of open day squirrel season.
The ground was sprayed for weeds and disked several days before to help make the planting go easier. And with a cumulative effort from several members, the plot was put in with several blends of clover, peas, and wheat, and with some excellent side cover surrounding the plot, it should be a nice supplemental food area for several game species on the wildlife management area. The members who worked on this project received a great amount of satisfaction in knowing they are helping the deer herd and other game, and this is what the Arkansas Deer Hunters Alliance is all about, giving back and helping. “ If we can spark one deer hunter to give back to the sport or spark one young hunter to take the sport up, it would all be worth our efforts in the long run” stated Region One Director, John Henry. And that seems to be the ADHA’s theme, to spark or generate interest in giving back to the sport while insuring it stays around for many generations.
Director Henry was the coordinator of the Harold E Alexander WMA food plot. And is one of many dedicated members trying to make a difference in our deer hunting sport within our state.
If your interested in the ADHA, you can get more information by going to their website at www.ardeer.org. Membership is $10 and its a organization, I know that will continue to bring the deer hunters together and help continue the great heritage of deer hunting in this state. I know they are sure headed in the right direction, and I like their ideal of promoting deer hunting as a family sport for all.
