Hi Shivani

I would recommend the Mythic Tarot by Juliet Sharman Burke and Liz Greene for your first deck.  The images are very clear and it works well with most interpretations you will find in books you may purchase in the future to do with Tarot (for a beginner I would recommend Nancy Garen Tarot Made Easy).  Of course with so many decks out there you may wish to choose a themed deck of something you are interested in i.e. druids, cats. shakespear, indians etc. the list is endless.  Have a look at the many decks offered on the Internet to see if there is one that catches your eye, but if not the Mythic is highley recommended, followed by A E Waite and Morgan Greer.  Good luck with your search.

Hi Shivani,

I agree with RC.  I usually recommend to most people that they purchase the Universal Waite Tarot Deck by US Games as a starting deck, simply because it is gently colored and is a fine introduction to the standard symbols of most Tarot decks you will find as a newcomer, or for that matter, most Tarot decks period.  There are lots, and they don't all conform to the same standards, but most decks follow the symbols found in this deck.

I have this one and about fifty others, but I almost always use this one for my daily work.  I also like The Fey Tarot for its sweetness and usefulness when I am feeling lighthearted.

Good luck!

how we should choose a new deck Huh
Most would say that the deck chooses you.  You come across a deck that "screams" out to you through its imagery and structure.  However, with all the decks out there it would be a time consuming process to find the "one" amongst the many.

When looking for a new deck, one should ask themself "what is it that I intend to do with this deck?"  i.e. Intuitive Reading, Academic Reading, Qabalistic Study, Historical Study, Artwork Appreciation, etc...  The type of application or operation will more than likely determine what type of deck (Exoteric or Esoteric,) and what type of imagery (Literary Theme or Genre Theme) is required...  From the use comes the deck.
