Thank you so much to all the participants in today's call.  It was fun catching up with some RS07 new friends and making some more new friends who were not able to be there but who were able to join us today.

My "two-pennorth" for today . . .

Key learnings from this call:

1.  This wonderful community is growing.

This is a great space for me personally to meet some fascinating people who I immediately feel an affinity with.  I spoke to people I've never met/spoken to before but felt as if we were all old friends.

It was fun to catch up with Debbie whose blog brought my attention to the joys and benefits of the Readers Studio, great to hear Maribeth talk about how there is so much to learn still - links to astrology, numerology, etc.  Then Ellen giving us helpful thoughts and advice on mercury in retrograde.  Good to know that this kind of teleconference and catchup is an ideal opportunity to reconnect and review.    Beth commented on how Ruth Ann & Wald's passion for Tarot is causing their community to expand in an international way and - via this monthly forum - to interconnect even further.

There's even scope for expansion of numbers for RS 2008!

2.  We are a "self selected group of people who can all handle ambiguity"

Thanks to Paul for putting that so eloquently.  And I also liked the "one big play tent" word picture of the RS!!  We can handle ambiguity and I was impressed by the openness of the group when I came over for my first RS this year.  Links back to that passion for Tarot.  Good to get Leonora's take on how this reconnects previous attendees with newer ones (and the ones who've made it every time - Debbie I'm playing catch up!).  After hearing Leonora's insights from the 2005 RS I can't wait to meet Mark McElroy in October.

3.  We can share learnings whether we were there or not.

I am thrilled by the impact of this "self selection" idea.  We choose to be part of this community, whether that is through the RS, teleconferences, whatever.  (I'm reminded of Ellen's "we need to meet people in the way they want to be met" comment.)  Good to "meet" Jenny too - a fellow Brit who now lives in Oregon and hasn't been able to get to RS yet.  I think you are right, this kind of communication is "a gift" to reconnect and to connect further.  Also a reminder of how Nattacia went away from this year's RS to share Mary Greer's "3 card drawing" with a group and how well that went with hundreds of crayons being shared out!  And Berthe from Holland - who wasn't at the studio but loved the idea - has done the 3 card drawing with her daughter!

Let's share this stuff around even more!  Smiley

So - another wonderful experience.  Thank you David for being on the call and our love and best wishes for a speedy recovery go to you.

NEXT CALLS:  Friday 20th and/or Sunday 22nd July

Join us for whichever suits you best . . . or both!  I'll be there and so will Ruth Ann & Wald.

with love and best wishes,
Mary

Me again, a few extra learnings from today's call . . . thought I'd share them while they are fresh in my mind.

1.  I don't realise how much has "sunk in" from the RS until I hear what others are doing.
It was so great to hear that people have taken the Mary Greer's 3 Card Drawing out and used it in their classes.  I hadn't realised I was using it in a virtual way.  Whenever I am doing smaller, shorter readings now - especially those 3 card readings for things like the free TABI.org.uk free readings . . . I'm actually merging and melding together the imagery and symbolism of all cards drawn.  Wow!  I hadn't realised I was doing that!  Thank you Ferol - your comments about Nattacia and Phyllis - your comments about this just reminded me!

2.  We are not "normal" people.

Thank you Sterling for that great quote . . . a wonderful comment and you are SO right (thank God!).  I loved the reminder to use our gifts wisely and responsibly, and to be aware of others.

3.  We really help each other in a wonderful spirit of abundance.
I love the way we are all keen to share what we are doing, our experiences and thoughts and ideas.  I was reminded of some things that haven't fully integrated with me yet.  And I am so grateful to have the opportunity to get these regular reminders of some of the great stuff from RS07!

Thank you all,

and especially to Wald & Ruth Ann for making all this possible . . . and for your fantastic news on RS08!!!  Now we will need another thread for that    Smiley

with love,
Mary

Well, the first 2 calls this month went really well with a number of guests on, including people who were at the Studio and some people who were not there.

This is great news as we are keen to spread the Tarot School Readers Studio "far and wide in time and space".

We have had guests on from Holland, Prague and the UK as well as throughout the USA!!!

3 more learnings from me . . .

1.  We can play nicely with crayons!!
Mary Greer's 3 card drawing was really about drawing - as in pictures!  I had previously thought of myself as not artistic at all.  Going into the exercise with some trepidation I was really surprised by the value of selecting 3 cards and then drawing them on a piece of paper and mixing up all the symbolism of the 3 cards to put them into a completely new order!  Great fun.  Mary's asked us to email them to her!

2.  I can learn about things I missed at the Studio by being on the calls and browsing this forum.
It was great to be able to learn more about Kevin Quigley's session on the call.  We were offered a choice of several evening workshops and I wanted to do them all!   The good news though is that Beth was able to share with us how Kevin's session went and what it covered.  Isn't that just great!

3.  I'm reminded of some of my key learnings on the calls
Marcia did such a great session and it was fantastic to run through some of the key points including the original virtues of the suits and the "tests" and "triumphs".  Great session.

Elinor came in for lots of praise too - another really useful session.

So, thanks everyone and I look forward reading more posts and to catching up with you again next month!  I'll post details on the Readers Studio Invitation thread and on my www.tarotacademy/livejournal.com blog.

Thank you so much!

[I can't believe I just accidently deleted everything I wrote.  Here goes again.]

I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to participate on both teleconference calls, but am glad that I was able to do so for the Saturday call.  It was nice to be reminded of how great the Reader's Studio really was and to be able to talk to people that I've only just met (like Mary and Ferol) or people that I usually only see once a year.  I'm also really glad that you are going to do this once a month.

1. For me the one biggest thrill in attending the Reader's Studio every year is to be able to meet people who love Tarot just as much as I do.  Yes, it is a professional conference; but we are not coming because either our professional obligations or places of employment are forcing us to go.  We all attend because we want to work with Tarot, learn new skills, and meet others who want to do so just as much as we do.  And Wald and Ruth Ann's Reader's Studio is almost one of the only ways professional Tarot Readers and interested students can do this.

2. It always a great privilige to work with Elinor Greenberg.  I've know Elinor a long time and have studied with her in the past, but there is always something new to learn from her.  Even before I got to know Elinor, I already used Tarot as a tool for spiritual and psychological growth, more than for predictive readings.  Back when I was in college, I only read for myself.  Now that I'm doing it professionally, I find great joy in helping other people use Tarot in the same way.  Yet, the insights aren't really coming from me, they are coming from the people I'm reading for--I'm just using the card interpretation skills that I have learned to help them see something that, in reality, they already know inside themselves.  And Elinor really give us great tools to facilitate these more psychological uses of tarot.  Before I really got to know Elinor well, I had read "Tarot and Psychology" by Arthur Rosengarten.  Dr. Rosengarten is also a psychotherapist who uses Tarot.  His book was more written to introduce other psychotherapists to the possibilities inherent in Tarot; but it is so clearly presented that I hightly recommend it as an adjunct to what we learned from Elinor.

3. For me the biggest thrill at this Reader's Studio was being able to meet Marcia Masino.  She wrote the first real Tarot book I purchased, "Easy Tarot Guide".  I think I purchased this back when it orignally came out in the mid-Eighties and even though, thanks to Wald and Ruth Ann, I've learned so much that I don't have to consult this book any longer, I can still highly recommend it.  Thank God, it has become available again.  It got a little hard to find at one point.  I believe it was the first book Elinor Greenberg had purchased as well.  The one thing I liked the best about it, was that it presented Tarot as something professional and respectable--not just something for parties or something you can use to fake people out.  I'm looking forward to her next book.  I found that I loved her presentation, but would have to work more to absorb all of the implications--so I can't wait for the book to come out.  I don't feel that there always is enough emphasis on the minor arcana.  After all it makes up the larger portion of the deck, but so many excellent books on tarot give the minor arcana short shrift or it's not dealt with at all.  The books that do deal with the minors often relegate these cards to more predictive interpretations, reserving the major psychological and/or spiritual intepretations to the major arcana.  I, myself, think that the minors can be just as spiritual and psychological as the majors and that the majors can be just as predictive as the minors.

I'm sorry I had to miss Mary Greer's presentation.  But, like what happened several years ago, I had a major choral concert on the same weekend as the Reader's Studio.  This year, unlike the last time, I just couldn't miss the dress rehearsal and that was at the same time as Mary's talk.  It was a bit exhausting running back and forth between Manhattan and Queens via public transportation since I'm too broke to want to take cabs back and forth--but it was worth it.  And I had a great bus driver on the way back to the Reader's Studio who showed me that I could get off the M60 bus before it got to Laguardia Airport because there's a stop right near the hotel.  The first person I saw when I got back to the hotel after the rehearsal on Saturday was Kevin Quigley.  To find out that not only is he a great Tarotist--he is also a professional singer and the Bernstein piece I was performing that weekend is one of his favorite choral works.

And that's the other great thing about the people you meet at the Reader's Studio--we all may be Tarot enthusiasts, but we come from completely different backgrounds, personal histories, religious persuasions, and other careers.  It is very enriching to get to know all of these wonderful people and I personally find it rewarding that no one is made to feel out of place because the community chooses to shut out a certain style of reading or a particular religious practice; or even because of the way we dress or present ourselves.  We are all allowed to be unique individuals and that is the greatest thing of all about this community.

Beth Palladino (P.S. The Leonard Bernstein piece my choir performed is "Chichester Psalms", one of the few major choral works to be written in Hebrew.  I thought this really fit in with the weekend and, in case you're interested, we got a standing ovation.)

Hi Mary,

I  just pushed a tab key and the original message disappeared into cyberspace! You may get a partial reply. Anyway, the first teleconference was super. It was good to experience the energy of the Readers Studio once again.

Here are the top three learnings
   a)  It was good to l put faces to voices, to connect with members fo the Teleclasses that I am taking withf Wald and RuthAnn and to feel like we had know one another for a long, long time.
    b) The opportunity to schmooze with well known Taroists, ie, Mary Greer, Rachel Pollack and Marcia Masino, and others,  and feel that we were all working in one spirit.
    c)  The pre-conference session with Wald and RuthAnn on Advanced Aces and the Elemental Spread was outstanding as were all the speakers: Mary Greer, Marcia Masino, Elinor Greenberg. The insights gained will be worked with for a long time.

The Readers Studio was way beyond my expectations. Meeting with people from all over the world, connecting with readers from  other states and with other modes of reading was a great value. I look forward to future teleconferences and the coming Readers Studio in  2008.

Hi Mary and everyone I HEARD today,
That was cool!

Great call today, I'm so glad I was able to participate!  I knew the energy of this studio experience was special that is exactly why a newbie like myself wanted to attend.  Imagine all of these people so educated and talented welcoming and supporting.  I love Tarot and the people I'm meeting on this path. The most generously spirited group gather together from all curves of the world...well, its just inspiring and motivational!  A whole group of people wanting to learn and share what they learn.  Open hearts and open minds creates open spirits and that surely makes the world spin a little smoother and me smile.

What did I learn from the Studio?
1.That sometimes what you can't do (at the moment)helps you to do other surprizing cool things.
2.Good People are good people regaurdless of social status.
3. Reinforced the fact that Tarot makes my heart beat and I'm just getting started!

Thanks for the teleconference...I look forward to the next.
The road that leads to next years event will be exciting!  See ya there!
What a good day!

Sharing Key Learnings from the 2007 Readers Studio
« on: May 17, 2007, 03:51:08 PM »

 Smiley
OK, we've just finished the first ever teleconference call following the Readers Studio and we were geographically spread out from California to Prague (via NYC, Seattle, various other parts of the USA and Birmingham in England - that's me).

What a great call.

I'd just liike to say thank you again to everyone who joined the call and participated by sharing their key learnings from the conference.  It was great to see that we had an excellent turnout of people who were able to get to the conference PLUS some others who were unable to make it to New York last month.

That was really our goal - to share with people who were and were not there.

So - at the end of the first call I reminded everyone that we will be running these monthly and will bring in the webconferencing facility in July - I know some of you are as keen as I am to make this happen.

I also suggested at the end that we share our top 3 learnings perhaps?  Only fair that I participate fully so here are my top 3 learnings (just at this particular moment . . . they keep changing and swapping around).

MY TOP 3 LEARNINGS FROM THE CONFERENCE:

1.  The warmth of the Tarot community

What a great group of people.  The welcome I received on arrival - after a long journey from the West Midlands here in the UK - was truly memorable.  With 10 minutes to spare, I checked in, threw my case in my room and got myself downstairs for the pre-conference "Advanced Aces" class.

Throughout the long weekend (which flew by!) I was thrilled by the warmth and friendliness of everyone involved.  Some people seemed to get on so well I thought they had known each other for years.  Only for me to find out they had met an hour before.  Fantastic.

First timer or every timer . . . everyone was welcome.  The "famous" authors, artists and designers were all joining in and working alongside everyone else.  And getting some amazing learnings too.  Unforgettable.

2.  It was a "Level Playing Field"

Whatever level of experience you had when you got to the Readers Studio - it was fine.  We were all in the same boat, all on the same track and all there to practice and learn from our speakers and each other.  So - if you were a fairly new reader, a really experienced 'old hand', a real Tarot scholar, an author, creator, designer, trainer, speaker, or first timer . . . everything was relevant, useful and interesting.  Sat next to each other we shared experiences and new understandings.

3.  It was full of amazing resources

This is a bit of a catch all comment.  The resources given to us by our presenters in the form of handouts, ideas, new perspectives were invaluable.  Add to that the resources provided by the people on the tables around the room - i.e. the Tarot Decks, Books, Jewellery, Artwork/Prints, the free swap table, the Tarot School offerings . . . . AND the resources available from each and every person there.

The willingness to share and participate and exchange addresses, emails, ideas, thoughts meant that we all came away even more resourceful than we arrived.

So - those are my top 3 - what are yours?

Share them with us all and let's see how this thread develops!

Simple bullet points or detail - whatever suits you best.

I look forward to reading yours and to catching up with you on the calls   Cool
